The greater part of Asia is currently undergoing a major process of transformation, involving not only individual countries’ state-building but also, under new socio-cultural conditions, the need to find new positions in international politics. This course aims to identify historical, cultural and political constellations and analyze how these are reflected in today’s conditions. The emergence of new structures at national as well as regional level is studied and the concept of Asia is problematized from several perspectives.
