“I like the proximity in which professors treat students, how they make you feel comfortable”

Aida Bertolotti is a student from Barcelona who is currently doing her Master in Biochemistry at Stockholm University. According to Aida, the best thing about studying in Sweden is the close interaction between students and professors. And of course, the fika!

Aida from Barcelona. masters student in biochemsitry. Currently doing her masters thesis in Copenhagen!

Hello Aida, can you tell me a bit about yourself?

– I am a 22-year-old student from Barcelona in Spain. I have studied a bachelor's in Biochemistry before and, as I am very passionate about the field I wanted to keep my studies on the same subject. In my spare time, I like everything related to music – from playing the guitar to listening to live music. I've actually found some lovely venues in Stockholm. I also love reading, especially essays and poetry.

Which program did you choose? Why did you choose it?

– I chose the Master program in Biochemistry because, as I mentioned before, this is a subject I am passionate about. Also, I enjoy how this Master program is very focused on proteins, as I would like to focus my studies towards this topic for their relevance in biological processes.

What does chemistry mean to you?

– I believe it is a great discipline that allows you to explain biomolecular processes to the deepest level. Everything happening in living beings could be explained through chemical reactions and molecular interactions and that is fascinating!

What do you like the most about Stockholm university?

– I like the proximity in which professors treat students, how they make you feel comfortable. I believe that's the best way to encourage interaction with them. Also, I loved only having one course at a time as it allows you to focus entirely on it and assimilate the newly acquired knowledge better.

What do you like the most about Stockholm and Sweden?

– I like the abundance of green areas surrounding the city and how nice people are, I especially enjoy how they take things with ease. Also, I love fika!

If someone is considering applying to the program, what would you tell them?

– If there is a program you are really interested in, I would say go for it! It might seem a bit intimidating at first, living so far away and in a cold-weather country, but it's definitely worth it! Moreover, there are plenty of international students at Stockholm University with whom you could share a beautiful friendship.
