Previous research

My dissertation Libretto im Progress: Brechts und Weills „Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny“ aus textgeschichtlicher Sicht (2004, published in 2005) describes and systematizes the material of the libretto and then analyses its textual history. Other publications deal with Goethe’s Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre, Brecht’s ballet librettos, Lagerlöf and the opera libretto, critique génétique, the screenplay as a genre and the relationship between the university discipline “litteraturvetenskap” and literary scholarship in Sweden as a whole.

Current research

My current project, financed by the Swedish Research Council 2011–2014, aims at the formulation of a literary (Germanistic) editorial theory regarding the opera libretto. The project has two main problems: (i) Under which circumstances is the text in full and vocal scores to be considered a part of the libretto’s textual history? (ii) How should certain types of variants between “literary texts” and “score texts” be regarded / dealt with theoretically and practically?
