Welcome to Molecular Biology & Functional Genomics

Summary-slide

The department has the goal to produce high quality basic research in molecular biology and to teach state-of-the-art molecular biology at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our research is focused on essential basic biological problems. Research groups at the department study gene expression in eukaryotic organisms, synthesis of DNA precursors, innate immunity, tissue regeneration and early evolution, using a variety of organisms as illustrated in the above figure. For further information about research activities, please turn to the information about the individual research groups. Basic and advanced courses at the graduate level in molecular biology are given, often in collaboration with other departments at the Stockholm University. If you are interested in our Bachelor and Master programs, please also go to www.big.su.se. The department has a highly international setting with PIs, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students from many parts of the world. If you are interested in a degree project, Ph.D. training or postdoctoral studies, please contact individual research group leaders.
