Booking of microscopy sessions at IFSU
A web based booking system is used for all instruments. New users receive a personal username and password after having been introduced by the facility manager to one (or more) of the IFSU instrument’s. You are only allowed to book the instruments which you have been introduced to and know how to handle.
Booking procedure:
Go to the website booking.wgi.su.se/index.php
Log in with your username and password
Choose bookings in the menu
Select a category from drop down menu - IFSU
Choose a resource (either all instruments/day by day, or one instrument for several days)
Use the cursor to point at time/instrument that you want to book and you will automatically get a one hour session booked, if you need more time use the drop down menu for time.
When finished click on submit and your time is booked.
You will get an email with information of your booking and a cancellation code that you can copy/paste into the box for cancellation.
Note;
- You are not allowed to reserve time on any of the instruments unless you have gone through an introduction session together with the facility manager
-All users must follow the rules for booking and microscope handling as specified for the different microscopes.
Rules for Booking and Microscope handling
The confocal microscopes
Daytime (08-17) Monday to Friday, the maximal reservation time allowed for one user is 4 hrs, and only two such sessions are allowed to be reserved at a time. During evenings and weekends longer sessions are allowed. However, be careful only to reserve the time you need.
The microscope users are highly requested cancel reservation which you cannot make use of. This will allow for others to come in, and also prevent unnecessary run time of lasers and mercury lamps (which have finite lifetimes). Booked sessions must be started within 30 min after the stipulated time in the web booking calendar otherwise the microscope is free to be used by others. Please note that you will be charged for the first hour.
Saving of data: go to F: and under the folder USER make your own folder labeled with your name (first name and family name). Permanent storage of files is not allowed on the microscope computers and maximum space per user allocated is 1GB per person. Save your files to a CD or USB memory stick and delete old files from the computers.
Clean the immersion lenses with the special lens paper after having finished a session, and sign the log-book with both yours and your group leader’s name (in readable style).
If there is a booked session starting within 1 hour after you, just log out and leave the lasers and mercury lamp on otherwise turn off. Everyone is responsible for his/her booking as well as for turning off the system when finished or after cancellation of a previously booked session.
The Cell Observer/Live Cell system
For live cell imaging the system has to equilibrate at required temperature over night before use and after finished session cool down to room temperature. Initially only the time of active use of the microscope will be charged to the user. Only two sessions are allowed to be reserved at a time.
Saving of data at the microscope computer: go to D: and under the folder USER make your own folder labeled with your name (first name and family name). Permanent storage of files is not allowed on the microscope computer. Saving of data to storage system: go to My network places, find xxxxsave image (xxxx = your name). Your data will then be available from the workstation where you can do further processing by utilizing the full version of the software Slide book, Axiovision and Autodebluer.
Clean the immersion lenses with the special lens paper after having finished a session, turn off the piezo-table if it has been in use, and make sure to fill in the log-book at appropriate spaces (in readable style).
Switch the tubing from the CO2 /air conditioner from water to 70% ethanol.
If there is a booked session starting within 1 hour after you, just log out and leave the X-Cite and/or DG-4 on otherwise turn off both lamps. Everyone is responsible for his/her booking as well as for turning off the system when finished or after cancellation of a previously booked session.
The electron microscope
Do not book more than10 hours consecutively. At the end of the day, you can book again for 10 more hours if nobody else has signed.
There is one computer called TecnaiPC that operates the microscope. This computer is only used to operate the microscope. Each user will have her/his own user account in the TecnaiPC. Each user can define own settings/layout without affecting the other accounts.
There is a second computer called SupportPC that is connected to the TecnaiPC. The SupportPC is the place to store temporary images and work with them, if necessary. Each user will also have her/his own user account in the SupportPC.
Neither the TecnaiPC nor the SupportPC are connected to the internet. Burn a CD with your data, or use a USB memory stick to retrieve your images.
When finished your session, switch off Filament and High Tension, log out from your account on the TecnaiPC and the SupportPC, but leave the TecnaiPC on, switch off both screens and sign in the log-book.
Everyone is responsible for his/her booking as well as for turning off the system when finished or after cancellation of a previously booked session.
