Centrally located at Frescati Campus

Frescatihallen is a sports hall on campus of Stockholm University offering a broad variety of sports activities. The facilities are primarily intended for students and staff of Stockholm University, but are open to the public, companies and associations as well. It is centrally located on the main campus at Frescati, between Allhuset and the Museum of Natural History and about a one minute walk away from the metro station Universitetet and bus stop Universitetet Norra. Lappkärsberget, Stockholm University’s largest student housing facility, is located close by as well. Parking facilities are provided in front of the hall.

Broad variety of sports activities offered

The sports hall has about 6,250 square meters and offers multiple options for physical activity. In Frescatihallen, students can play a variety of ball and racket sports like badminton, floorball, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, indoor soccer and basketball. They can join groups or practice badminton with a coach, or even rent whole badminton courts at student discounts to bring friends and have some fun while working out together. Prices vary depending on the weekday and daytime, but will become cheaper in 2017.

Other training options are offered by Medley and Stockholms Studenters IF. Medley offers a fully equipped gym and multiple fitness classes at Frescatihallen for discounted student prices. The gym is arranged according to three different focus areas: functional, muscle and cardio. Medley works together with the Stockholm University Student Union. Members of the Student Union get to access the gym and participate in fitness courses at reduced costs.

Stockholm Studenters IF is a sports club that offers over 110 different training groups in 20 different sports. Members must be 16 years or older. The different sports range from basketball through fencing, floorball and various others.

Well-equipped facilities

Frescatihallen’s well-equipped facilities provide the students with an ideal environment for their work-out. Showers, changing rooms and lockers are provided, but students must bring their own towels. The building also includes a lunch restaurant with multiple food options and a sports shop to buy sports gear and clothes (shop is closing down on 31 December). Frescatihallen also has a chiropractor, Jens from Hälsocompaniet in Linköping. Chiropractic treatments and massages can be booked online. With its wide choice of sporting activities, Frescatihallen aims to encourage physical activity among Stockholm University’s students at an affordable price.
