Valborg (Walpurgis night) and May Day
Walpurgis Night, or Valborg in Swedish, is an ancient tradition, possibly going back to pre-Christian times in Europe. The day, celebrated on April 30, marks the birth of Saint Walpurga, who is believed to have been born in Devon, England around the year 710.
In Sweden, Valborg is an important festive occasion, celebrated each year on April 30 by the lighting of large bonfires and other festivities.
Visit the Stockholm Tourist Board for details of Valborg activities in Stockholm.
