Conferment of Master's Degrees
The Conferment of Master’s Degrees is an old academic tradition but a fairly new ceremony at Stockholm University. During the ceremony the graduates (promovendi) step up onto one side of Aula Magna’s stage and, after having received the diploma, leave by the other side. This used to symbolize that they will now move forward in life, and have the right to teach others. Today it is a memorable occasion to celebrate your Master's degree.

Registration for the ceremony on May 25 is now closed.
Coming ceremonies
* Friday May 25, 2012
* Friday October 26, 2012
The Conferment of Master's Degrees is held in Aula Magna twice a year, generally on the last Friday of May and of October.
You need to apply for your Master's degree to be invited!
You must apply for your Master’s degree (or equivalent on a Master's level) before January 31 to be invited to the ceremony. For the spring ceremony, the application must be sent to the Student’s Office within the period July 1, 2011 - January 31, 2012. The invitation card will be sent by mail to you in April, to the address registered at Stockholm University.
The Diploma, a ceremonial memento
The diploma that graduating masters students receive during the ceremony is not legal proof of their degree (not to be confused with the degree certificate, sent by mail) but a ceremonial memento of the conferment ceremony. The diploma is given only to those present at the ceremony.
Guests to the ceremony
Graduating students are welcome to invite up to three guests to the ceremony. Please note that the number of seats in Aula Magna is limited to 1200. If the total number of registered guests exceeds 1200 we may later be forced to reduce the number of guests.
Rehearsal is obligatory
In order to ensure the proper ceremonial tone for the Conferment of Master’s Degrees, an obligatory rehearsal will be held at 16.30 that same day.
The ceremony is held in Swedish
The conferment ceremony, which is held entirely in Swedish, will start at 18:00. All guests are expected to be seated at 17.45. The ceremony begins and ends with massed standards and contains, in addition to the conferment, speeches, songs and music. The ceremony ends at about 20.00 and is followed by a reception in the Gallery in Aula Magna.
Dress
For the Conferment of Master’s Degrees, the standard dress code is business/informal. For gentlemen, this means a suit, and for ladies a dress, evening gown or suit and skirt.

Professional photographers will take photos during the ceremony, and they offer portrait photography after the ceremony. The photos will be published on-line approximately one week after the ceremony, and may be ordered from the same webpage.
