In accordance with provisional regulations, the election of the vice-chancellor, was required to take place as soon as three lecturers were given tenure. This occurred first during 1882; therefore, this is when the first election of a vice-chancellor occurred. The vice-chancellor for 1883 and 1884 was Professor Eugen Warming. The duties of the vice-chancellor had, until then, been handled by Professor R. Rubenson (1881 - 1882), and before that Professor Hjalmar Holmgren was selected in 1878 by the college Board.
