Esther Duflo to give 2010 Myrdal Lecture
On Friday May 28 at 16.00 Esther Duflo, MIT, will give the 2010 Myrdal Lecture “Science, Experiments, and the Fight against Poverty” at G-salen, Arrheniuslaboratoriet.
Esther Duflo is one of the world’s leading development economists. She has spearheaded the burgeoning use of randomized (treatment-control) field experiments as a research method, and applied it to a variety of specific issues throughout the developing world. Her research focuses on microeconomic issues in developing countries, including household behavior, education, access to finance, health and policy evaluation.
Duflo, an NBER Research Associate, serves on the board of the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD), and is Director of the Center of Economic Policy Research's development economics program.
She is the winner of the 2010 J.B. Clark Medal, a prize awarded to the best American economist under the age of 40, and won the "Best French Young Economist Prize" (Le Monde/Cercle des economistes, 2005), the Médaille de Bronze (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, 2005).
There will be a reception after the lecture.
