Stockholm University among world's top in ranking list
According to this year's prestigious Shanghai ranking list, Stockholm University remains among the top 100 universities in the world, at place 81. In the area of chemistry, Stockholm is 45th in the world.

Each year, Shanghai Jiao Tong University produces a ranking list covering the world's universities, the so-called Shanghai ranking. The Shanghai ranking list is one of the world's most prestigious university rankings and is important for many students when choosing where to study. Research for the ranking list covers 12,000 universities around the world, while the final list includes the top 500 centers of higher education.
Stockholm University 81st in world
This year's list is, as in previous years, topped by the American universities - Harvard, Stanford, MIT and Berkeley - with British Oxford University in fifth place. Karolinska Institute is the highest ranked of the Swedish higher education institutions, in place 44. The University of Uppsala takes second place, at 67, followed by Stockholm University, which is the third Swedish university in the top one hundred list, with place 81. Sweden's Lund University is placed in the range of 102-150.
Stockholm ranked 45th in chemistry
In the field of science and technology, Stockholm University is the highest ranked Swedish university, placed in the 51-75 range. (No other Swedish universities are among the top one hundred in this area). The ranking also applies to certain individual subjects: within the area of chemistry, Stockholm University has a very strong position, at number 45 in the world.
The ranking is partly based on research-related criteria, such as the number of Nobel prizes, citations in scientific journals, and publications in journals with a high so-called impact factor.
