Stockholm University gets new railway station

On Thursday, 7th January a new station, named Universitetet, was opened on the Roslagsbanan commuter line.

The new station lies midway between, and replaces, the old Roslagsbanan stations Universitetet and Frescati, which have now been closed for some time. The new station is much closer to the underground station, also named Universitetet, and Stockholm University's campus at Frescati, where there are additional bus connections to Vasastan and Järvafältet.

The new station makes it easier to switch to other SL-traffic, and to reach Norra Djurgården, Stora Skuggen and Fiskartorpe. A new walkway will also make it easier to get to the Bergius Botanic Garden and Brunnsviken.

The passenger lift was not in place when the station opened for traffic January 7, though there is, for the time being, a walkway down to the platform. The lift, along with the rest of the station, is due for completion around January 24.

Journey planning for travel on the Roslagsbanan commuter line can be done via the Stockholm Public Transport (SL) website. See http://sl.se/Templates/SubStart.aspx?id=1906.
