About Pro-Vice Chancellor Lena Gerholm

Lena Gerholm has held the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor of Stockholm University since 2004, and has been professor of ethnology at the University since 1999. She was awarded a PhD in Ethnology at Stockholm University in 1985, since which time she has a long and varied academic career, including participation in a wide range of research projects and commissions.

Prior to her appointment as Pro Vice-Chancellor in 2004, Lena Gerholm pursued an active career in the context of a number of respected institutions, beginning as an assistant in 1976 at the Museum of National Antiquities. Her career includes periods at the Nordiska museet, the Swedish Arts Council, the Royal Institute  of Technology, and the Multicultural Center in Botkyrka. The greater part of her career has been spent at Stockholm University, where she has held a variety of different responsibilities.

Lena Gerholm was born on 9 June 1952, and grew up on the island of Väddö in the Roslagen area. She has two children, Lisa, born 1987, and Ragnar, born 1989. She has lived and worked in the field in upper Tornedalen in northern Sweden and in Alexandria, Egypt. Her interests include literature, art, music and walking along the quays of Södermalm in Stockholm, or the beaches of Österlen in Skåne.
