Located at Costa Navarino, Messinia in Greece, NEO is dedicated to research and education on the climate and environment of the Mediterranean region. The research station, which began operating in the fall of 2010, has become a dynamic hub where scientists from all over the world conduct frontline research, develop new tools and methods, as well as meet to exchange knowledge and ideas.

The organization behind the prize, Ecopolis, wants the price to reward actions and programs realized by organizations and agencies that serve the protection of the environment and/or raise citizens' awareness of environmental issues.

The prize, a statuette, was presented at a formal ceremony in Athens the other day. Giorgos Maneas, NEO's station manager, was there and received the award.
