Marie’s research project will follow same and different sex couples who have children in order to compare how they divide up parental leave and paid work and what consequences there are for their careers. The project also includes interviews with couples who are in the process of becoming parents. Marie is the leader of the project that includes researchers in the Netherlands and USA and will, together with doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, also analyse the Nordic countries.

“This project will give us completely new opportunities to understand the importance of gender, parenthood and economic incentives for the division of labour in a couple. We have the potential to learn more about norms and what we used to routinely call gender roles,” says Marie Evertsson.

No similar studies of this magnitude have ever been done before.
