Japanese-Swedish Antarctic Expedition
The Japanese-Swedish Antarctic Expedition (JASE) was a collaborative effort for International Polar Year. Four Swedish tracked vehicles left the Swedish station Wasa in Dronning Maud Land headed for the Japanese station Syowa. At the same time, four Japanese tracked vehicles travelled in the opposite direction. The convoys met and exchanged two persons and some scientific equipment to share data from the whole cycle. The tracked vehicles were equipped with scientific instruments for sampling and monitoring. The research team did its studies in the area where drilled ice cores had been taken previously, providing valuable information about the climate.
