As your thesis nears completion, the manuscript should be discussed in order to decide whether a public defence is recommended. It is also now time to arrange a number of practical details in which many different parties at the university are involved. The following sections provide key information about defending your thesis.
Examination of a licentiate thesis takes place in connection with a publicly advertised licentiate seminar. However, the time and place are not decided by Student Services; the entire process is administered by the relevant department instead.
After successful completion of your public defence or licentiate seminar, it is time to apply for your PhD, provided you have also completed the course part of your education. The following information shows what must be reported in Ladok and on the application form.
