Frequently Asked Questions about University accommodation

Why does my apartment have two different numbers?

The Swedish Parliament, the Riksdag, has decided that all housing units are to be listed in a national housing register. The apartment you live in has been given a new number in the housing register currently being developed by Lantmäteriet. The "old" system may still be the one used by the landlord and also by Stockholm University, and therefore the numbers may differ in some of our accommodation areas. The correct number to give to the tax office is the four digit number that is written like (#xxxx) on your rental invoice.

What happens if I arrive later than the starting date of my contract?

There is no problem arriving later, your contract will not be cancelled, but we appreciate if you let us know if you are delayed. You will however still be liable for rent from the starting date of the contract.

How long is the waiting time?

As our applicants ask for accommodation for a limited time and usually from a certain date, it is difficult to estimate a general waiting time, as it in each case depends on the availability of accommodation and the demand for accommodation during the specific period.

If the applicant comes through a central agreement or a certain exchange programme, they have priority and therefore a shorter waiting time.

International PhD students and researchers outside these agreements/programmes are offered accommodation when there are vacancies and therefore the waiting time is longer. We recommend applying at least 6 months before the requested arrival date to have a chance.

The availability of accommodation tends to change quickly. Therefore, we book our apartments and rooms only two months ahead in time. This means that if you have applied in March for an apartment from October, you will be contacted no earlier than August.

If I have not received an offer before the date I requested, do I still remain in the queue?

If the requested moving-in-date on your application has passed and you haven’t received an offer, your application will be removed unless you contact Stockholm University within one month to update your application. The application will then remain in the queue.

Are the apartments and rooms furnished?

All our apartments and rooms are furnished, but some are more basically furnished then others. Please see details about the respective accommodation area.

Kitchen equipment?

Information regarding kitchens is given at the respective accommodation area.

Are dogs, cats or other pets allowed?

No pets are allowed in any of our apartments or rooms.

Where do I pay the rent?

See Rent, on the page General information about University housing.

What happens if I do not pay the rent on time?

Tenants who fail to pay in time will be charged a reminder fee of SEK 50. Tenants who repeatedly fail to observe the due dates will be given notice of termination of contract.

What is included in the rent?

The rent includes water, heating, electricity and internet.

Why is Februarys rent based on 30 days and not 28? (concerns docentbacken only)

This is because the monthly rent is based on 30 daily rents. The monthly rent is the same every month, why the rent for January, for example, is 30 days and not 31 days. The daily rent figure is used to easily calculate rent when a tenant arrives or leaves during the middle of the month.
