With the new procedures, it is possible to put books, post-it notes, window envelopes and receipts in the bin for waste paper for recycling. Also, one can mix soft and hard plastic in the bin for plastic. Milk cartons and corrugated cardboard can be mixed in the bin for corrugated cardboard and paper packaging.

The new waste handling procedures will hopefully increase recycling at the University and reduce the amount of unsorted and combustible waste.

The University's goal is to reduce the unsorted waste by 10 percent by the end of 2013 compared with 2010. Each year, the University generates an average of 520 tons of unsorted waste.
