Why does my apartment have two different numbers?

The Swedish Parliament, the Riksdag, has decided that all housing units are to be listed in a national housing register. The apartment you live in has been given a new number in the housing register currently being developed by Lantmäteriet. The "old" system may still be the one used by the landlord and also by Stockholm University, and therefore the numbers may differ in some of our accommodation areas. The correct number to give to the tax office is the four digit number that is written on your rental invoice.

What happens if I arrive later than the starting date of my contract?

There is no problem arriving later, your contract will not be cancelled.  However, we appreciate if you let us know if you are delayed. You will still be liable for rent from the starting date of the contract.  Keys can only be picked up monday-friday 09:00-16:00.  Keys cannot be picked up on weekends or holidays.

How long is the waiting time?

It is difficult to estimate a general waiting time.   Waiting time depends on the availability and the demand for housing during the specific period.  International PhD students and researchers are offered housing when there are vacancies and therefore the waiting time varies. We recommend applying at least 6 months prior to your requested arrival date.

The availability of accommodation tends to change quickly. Therefore, we book our apartments and rooms only two-three months prior to your requested arrival.

If I have not received an offer before the date I requested, do I still remain in the queue?

If the requested arrival date on your application has passed and you haven’t received an offer, your application will be removed unless you contact Stockholm University within one month to update your application. The application will then remain in the queue.  However, housing is meant to be for researchers and PhD students who are first arriving to Sweden.  Therefore, housing contracts will only be offered within the first 6 months from the start date of your PhD studies or research being conducted at Stockholm University.
