Important information for international students

Student Services has put together a package of important information for Master’s and other visiting students. Students should read this information before arrival at Stockholm University.

What to do – a step-by-step guide for new students

Step 1) Register at your department

In order to attend the course or programme you have been admitted to, you have to register at the department before the course or programme starts.

Your department is responsible for providing all information about course schedules, literature, location, etc. Further information could be found on your department’s website.

Step 2) Activate your University Account and University Card

Once you have registered at your department you can, after four hours, activate your University Account at the helpdesk situated in the main library in Building D 4th floor, which  is open Mon-Fri 10.00-16.40. Alternatively you can go to the Student Centre, Building A, 4th floor, open Mon-Fri open 12.30-15.00.

The staff at the helpdesk can help you to activate the University Account and the University Card, tell you how to purchase computer printouts, obtain a new password and a library card, etc. Go to www.it.su.se/studentsupport/english, or email helpdesk@it.su.se; for problems with the computers dial 08-16 1999.

Stockholm University Student Union (SUS)

The Student Union offers all members a safe and secure environment to study, a wide range of activities and attractive discounts and benefits. SUS, a non-profit organization, consists of committed students and employees working together to improve your everyday study situation. SUS represents you in all decision-making bodies at the University. SUS works for student influence and for an open and varied student life. You are always welcome to the Student Union with questions or ideas. Opening hours and contact details are always found on www.sus.su.se/en.

University Campus

Most activities at the University take place at the Frescati campus in the area from Sveaplan to the Bergianska Botanical Garden. Teacher training takes place at the Konradsberg campus. There are also departments located in other parts of Stockholm. See www.su.se/english/about/campus.

Travel

How to get to Campus Frescati

Take the underground to the University (Universitetet). Choose the red line towards Mörby centrum. More detailed instructions can be found at www.su.se/english/travel.

How to get to Campus Konradsberg

Underground:

Take the underground to Thorildsplan. Choose the green line towards Hässelby strand.

Bus:

No. 1, 49 or 62 - bus stop Rålambsvägen
No. 4, 40 or 77 - bus stop Västerbroplan

Student Centre, Building A

The Student Centre is found in Södra huset, Building A, floors 3 and 4. There you will find the student information desk on floor 4. Mon-Fri 10-15, also Tues 15-18. Here you may ask about everything concerning your studies, e.g. admission, the scholastic aptitude test, student exchange, scholarships, degrees, student support and more.

Study and career counselling – the Career Centre (floor 4)

Here you can approach staff if you have general questions about studies at Stockholm University or if you are unsure about your choice of study and need study counselling and information about the labour market.

At the Student Centre you can get support on your journey out into working life or if you want to have the possibility to prepare for the job market, during your studies. Students with disability (service at floor 3)

Students with disability or dyslexia may contact this service at tel: +46 (0)8-16 2123, +46 (0)8-16 2111, www.su.se/english/study/disability for help and support.

Student Health Service at Frescati campus

In B 4120, Building B, floor 4, Södra huset, low-rise building between Building A and B)

Short visits without appointment for medical and psychological reception:

  • Mondays and Wednesdays between 11.00-13.00.

You will find other possibilities for reception at the Student Health Service, based at Studentpalatset, Norrtullsgatan 2, (Underground: Odenplan). You will find telephone and opening hours and other information at www.su.se/english/studenthealth.

Coordinator for Equal Opportunities

The Coordinator for Equal Opportunities’ assignment is determined by the Law (2002:1286) on Equal Opportunities for students at the University. Students who feel discriminated or harassed due to gender or ethnicity ffiliation, religion or other beliefs, sexual orientation, disability or age, may turn to the Coordinator for Equal Opportunities at Stockholm University. www.su.se/english/study/equal-treatment.

Stockholm University Library

All information about the library including opening hours is to be found at www.sub.su.se.

The main library can be found in Södra huset, building D, floor 4. You can find information about book loans, opening hours, service, courses and all other library activities at www.sub.su.se. There is also a library at the campus at Konradsberg, building K, floor 3.
