Lappkärrsberget (Lappis)

Location
The housing area was built in the late sixties and is called “Lappis” for short. It consists of apartment buildings on three streets: Amanuensvägen, Forskarbacken and Professorsslingan. It is located in a green environment in the outskirts of Stockholm city, very close to the University. The buildings are between four and six storeys tall and there are 10-12 rooms in each corridor, all fully furnished with private shower and WC. The residents, both from Sweden and other countries, share a kitchen and a living room. There are laundry rooms on the housing area. Children or animals are not allowed in the student rooms.

Rent and rent payments
The rent for one semester is SEK 17000 and that includes cold and hot water, electricity and heating and high-speed internet-access with unlimited time online (not WiFi, bring your own cable or buy one here). The balance of the rent will be paid in two installments. A first down payment of SEK 7000 is made before arrival, and also serves as an acceptance of your housing offer. A second installment is made in the middle of the semester. Please observe that if you do not make the first payment on time your room booking will be cancelled.

Transportation

The closest underground station Universitetet (red line) is 12 minutes away from T-centralen in the centre of Stockholm. From Universitetet you can walk to Lappis in 5-10 minutes. You can also take bus 40, which goes between Lappis and Stockholm city via the University. If you come by car, there is a limited outdoor area where you can park, and parking places in a car park can be rented. If you want more information on parking and costs, contact Carpark AB, which is the company responsible for parking in your area. Email: kundtjanst.stockholm@carpark.se; Telephone: +46-771-969000

Inventories in the room and kitchen

The rooms are fully furnished with a desk, wardrobe, chair and bed. You must bring your own quilt, pillow, sheets and towels. Rooms might be provided with a quilt and a pillow but that cannot be guaranteed. The corridor kitchens are equipped with common freezers and fridges and private cupboards. You may have to get your own cooking utensils, china and so on, but there are usually a common use of these things in each corridors' kitchen. If you need to, all utensils not included can of course be bought once in Stockholm.

Key, code and laundry
Upon arrival you will receive keys for your room, kitchen cupboard and letterbox. To enter the corridor you need a code which will be given to you together with your key. Lost keys are subject to a reimbursement fee of 2300 SEK for change of locks. In the laundry room you will find washing machines and booking lists.

Insurance
There is an insurance that covers the building and surfaces in the room such as floors and walls. Your personal belongings will NOT be covered by this and you will have to sign insurance in your home country for this. It is very difficult to get insurance in Sweden for Exchange students as you will not have a Swedish personal identity number which is required by insurance companies. It is not mandatory to have insurance, but we recommend it.

TV, Telephone, computers and internet
There is a TV in the common living room. There are no telephones available in the corridors. Should you wish to use a mobile phone whilst in Sweden, there are plenty of options and good deals can be found by shopping around Stockholm. The best option might be to bring your mobile phone from your home country and purchase a pre-paid SIM card in Sweden, but check with your mobile phone company prior to leaving your home country to decide the best option for you once you are in Sweden. Sometimes we are able to provide exchange students with a SIM card (you need to add money to it to start using it) so please check with the Housing Office before you buy it yourself.

The rooms are not equipped with computers. You will need to bring your own computer to be able to use the internet access included in your rent. The internet is not WiFi due to security reasons so you also need to bring your own network cable, or buy one when you have arrived in Stockholm. There are stationary computers available at Stockholm University, free of charge. You will get more information on how to gain access to these computers when you arrive in Stockholm.

Things that are subject to maintenance
The University does not own any accommodation, but rent rooms for exchange students from different landlords, in your case from SSSB. If something is wrong with the toilet, water, plumbing, heating, stove or other fixed inventories you should contact SSSB’s local caretaker or the Housing office. Information about the responsible caretaker for your building is indicated at the entrance. SSSB has a local office at Professorsslingan 13 and the reception is open Monday to Friday 08.00-12.00 and has extended opening hours Mondays 16.00-18.30. This office is responsible for outdoor maintenance, such as snow and ice removal. For further information as well as pictures on this particular housing area please visit http://www.sssb.se, which also has an English version.
