Exchange students FAQ

Topics covered in this FAQ include: application, housing, arrival, choosing a course and Learning agreements.

There are currently two FAQ pages: a basic FAQ, which contains very general information about the University, and then one for exchange students (this page).

I want to come and study at Stockholm University and wonder where I can apply?
If there is no formal exchange agreement between the university you are currently attending and Stockholm University, you can study here as a free mover. Then you apply through the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education’s central applications system at www.studera.nu.

I want to come and study as an exchange student at Stockholm University and wonder where I can apply?
You must first apply for the exchange at your home university; either through your central International Office or through an international coordinator at your department or faculty. There must be a formal exchange agreement between your home university and Stockholm University, and your university must nominate you before you can apply for exchange studies at Stockholm University.

I am a nominated Erasmus student, and I wonder where I can apply?
All Erasmus agreements at Stockholm University are made and administered at departmental level. Contact the departmental coordinator at the department which has signed the agreement with your home university. You can find a list of all departmental coordinators at Stockholm University under Departments & Coordinators in the left menu.

Will Stockholm University provide all exchange students with student housing?
No. Exchange students are eligible to apply for student housing, but the availability of such housing cannot be guaranteed.

How do I apply for student housing and when will I get an answer?
You apply for housing when you register at Stockholm University by completing our Registration Form that will be sent to you by your departmental coordinator at Stockholm University. Non-European and Nordlys students apply online. You will be notified if you have received student housing approximately one month after the deadline.

I have student housing and wonder when and where I can pick up the key?
You can sign the contract and pick up your key at the Housing Office at Stockholm University during the arrival days or later.

I am unable to come when the semester begins, is it a problem to arrive later?
Contact the departmental coordinator at the department you are going to study. Remember to read all information on our website carefully, since you will miss the Orientation Week.

Which courses can I choose?
Consult Stockholm University’s course cataloge at http://sisu.it.su.se/search/en. Some courses, such as courses within a Master programme, can most of the time only be found on the departmental websites. Visit the relevant departmental website for more information. If you have questions about the course content, please contact the departmental coordinator at the department you are going to study.

I have to have my Learning agreement signed, what do I do?
The Learning Agreement should be signed by the coordinator at your department and the institutional coordinator. First bring your Learning Agreement to your departmental coordinator's office and then to the International Office.
