Available compensatory support for disabilities
It is the policy of Stockholm University to provide students with disabilities with such measures of support so as to ensure, to as great an extent as possible, that these students can pursue their studies under the same conditions as students who do not have disabilities.

Below is a description of the most common types of support.
- Alternative formats for texts
- Exam support
- Mentor
- Note-taking
- Support during classes, lectures and examinations
Alternative formats for texts
If you need course literature in an alternative format, such as talking books, enlarged texts, e-text or Braille, then the coordinator can register you at TPB (The Swedish Library for Talking Books and Braille), which produces course literature in alternative formats.
You may use your TPB user ID to have new books narrated. The staff at the University Library are important contact persons for you regarding this service.
Exam support
Exam support covers a wide range of reasonable adjustments that can include the following examples:
• Providing additional time
• Writing an exam using a computer, using spell check and/or synthetic speech
• Changes to the physical environment in which an exam is taken e.g. allowing sitting in a separate room
• Alternative forms of examination, e.g. oral exam, home assignment, written exam supplemented with an oral report
• Disregard for poor spelling or grammar
Mentor
A mentor, a student preferably with knowledge in the subject (senior student, doctoral student etcetera), helps you plan and organise your studies.
We cooperate with the departments to find a suitable person to provide you with personal support as regards to your studies. You meet regularly with your mentor to work with study related issues, such as going through your course literature and preparing for seminars and exams.
Note-taking
One of your fellow students can assist you with note taking during lectures and seminars. Your fellow student will receive compensation for this from Student Services.
Support during classes, lectures and examinations
In certain cases you may be eligible for an individual study programme/curriculum. Individual solutions in connection with the teaching situation and for examinations are always drawn up in consultation with the course co-ordinator or director of studies. It is always the department that makes decisions in these matters.
