Welcome to the Department of Molecular Biosciences, The Wenner-Gren Institute

The Department of Molecular Biosciences, The Wenner-Gren Institute (MBW) unites more than 30 independent research groups. Our mission is to carry out internationally recognized research and teaching in infection- and immunobiology, integrative biology and molecular cell biology. All our researchers are united by the common goal of seeking answers to fundamental biological problems at the molecular level. In short, MBW scientists study the function of genes and cells in tissues and organisms seeking core scientific truths and thereby contribute to solving the mysteries of life.

Mosquito

Why malaria mosquitoes like people with malaria

Malaria mosquitoes prefer to feed – and feed more – on blood from people infected with malaria. Researchers from Stockholm University, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and KTH Royal Institute of Technology have discovered why. The findings can lead to new ways to fight malaria without using poisonous chemicals. The results will be published in the next issue of the journal Science.
