An international and exciting collaboration led by Professor Östlund-Farrants together with Professor Marita Troye-Blomberg from Stockholm University and Professor Mary O’Connell from CEITC Masaryk University, Czech Republic, has now started together with the National Center for Malaria Research (CNRFP) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The study, which is currently in the sample collection phase, aims to sequence the genome of individuals of different ethnic groups that have very different responses to the malaria pathogen.  The major goal of this study is to elucidate the underlying mechanisms for the relative protection against malaria seen in the Fulani ethnic group.
