Self catering in our well equipped kitchen

Most courses and groups cook together in the main kitchen. Some of the smaller buildings have their own cooking possibilities. We care about the environment and therefore the recycling rules have to be followed. Information is posted in the kitchens.

If the field station is fully booked, it is preferable to agree upon dining hours to minimize stress and big crowds in the cooking areas.

NEW! There is also a well functioning kitchen in Lilla mässen (The Little Kitchen) for smaller groups!

Catering for larger groups

Big courses or meetings can also order pre-cooked food from a nearby catering firm. It is still up to the group to heat the food and see to it so that it gets to the laboratory, and also off the island in the afternoon. In the neighbourhood the following restaurants can deliver food to Uttervik:

  • Svalins Catering (Hans Svalin), + 46 70-372 4135
  • Café Orangeriet (Inger Nilsson), + 46 155-26 15 10

A cheap deal!

In 1960 the owner of the farm on Askö left his home for good. Professor Lars Silén at Stockholm University overtook the property one year later. Each year 500 SEK was payed to the National Property Board which made the last farm on Askö available to research.

Nowadays the rent is standard high and is financed through the Stockholm University Baltic Sea Centre.
