Chemical analysis
Analysing possibilities
Water measurements that can be performed:
- Oxygen
- Conductivity
- Salinity
- pH
- Nitrite nitrogen water tests (by spectrophotometer)
- Phosphate phosphorous water tests
- Ammonium nitrogen water tests
- Chlorophyll
- Nitrate nitrogen (by spectrophotometer, not SIS)

Rules for use of chemicals at the laboratory
According to our environmental policy, we aim to reduce the use of chemicals as much as possible. The guidelines for each substance must be carefully followed at all times. On courses, the course leader is responsible for use of chemicals.
Let us know in advance if you need to work with chemicals during your stay!
Bring the substance information and a valid risk analysis for your planned work. Upon arrival we will give you up-to-date information about chemical use in the laboratories, and security at the station. Eco-toxicological experiments can be conducted in the climate room at the micro lab. All left overs and waste has to be transported from the island when you leave.
Formaldehyde can only be used in a special fume hood in the chemistry lab. Microscopy of formalin fixed samples may only be done in the microscope room under the blowing fan. There is a formaldehyde storing room in the barn.
The Askö laboratory personnel has permission to handle radioactive substances. Such experiments may only be conducted in one of the labs, contact the staff while planning such work!
