Maria and our society

Maria is a mother of two, lives in Stockholm, and works as a teacher and researcher at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences Education at Stockholm University. She has previously been a doctoral student at Linköping University, and for the past year she has also been a professor of Educational Work at Dalarna University. What Maria finds most interesting about her research is that unexpected things happen constantly in the world of education, which forces you to open your mind to new ideas.

“I dream of a more open society that allows people to speak more freely about sensitive topics than what I currently perceive to be the case, both in individual encounters with others and in larger public contexts – at the national and international level – where the development of society and welfare is at stake”, says Maria.

She hopes that her research on social sciences will make a difference in people’s lives, as well as in the institutional context of education.
