The political system of North Korea, according to the Constitution of the DPRK, is very special and contains both elements of “North Korean type of socialism” and nationalistic and deeply traditional aspects.

After the actual supreme power in DPRK was transferred to Kim Jeongun (in 2011 – 2012), the state system in DPRK became more completed if to compare with the situation of Kim Jeongil’s ruling period (1994 – 2011).

The paper explains main features of the present North Korean political system and its changes after events of December 8 – 12, 2013 (conviction and sentence to death of the uncle of Kim Jeongun – former vice-chairman of the State Defense Committee – Jang Seongtaek).
