The so-called rationale refers to the non-arbitrary relationship between linguistic form and meaning, and also to the relationship between linguisticstructures and the factors that stimulate their emergence, development, and demise. The Chinese language is a medium that carries the weight of Chinese culture, and thus its vocabulary not only contains rich cultural connotations of the Han nationality, but also reflects the distinctive characteristics of the times. We will explore the characteristics of the lexicon of the Chinese language regarding its development, especially illustrating the rationale of new Chinese words in the contemporary era, as well as analyze the notions of language and the concepts of value as reflected in the lexical reasoning – for the benefit of the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.
