Re-envisioning icy landscapes in video art

Seminar

Date: Friday 28 October 2022

Time: 16.00 – 17.00

Location: online seminar

The Centre for Canadian Studies of Stockholm University is happy to launch the Northern Studies Journal Club with the Nexus Centre of Memorial University and the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies of York University.

The journal club is based on the principle of interaction with first a short presentation of the topic by the main speaker and then a discussion. The participants read the texts before the session.

To receive the material and register for the online event (Zoom), please e-mail ccs@su.se by 25 October 2022.

The language of the seminar is in English. The speaker for the first seminar is Sara Bédard-Goulet from Tartu University.

This seminar session builds on two video artworks by Quebec artist Nelly-Eve Rajotte that present northern landscapes. These icy landscapes have long been considered empty, contributing to the notion of wilderness, which has since been qualified. Situated knowledge, which happens through the use of a drone in the videos, renews our understanding of the vast Canadian lands.
