Caroline Kerfoot, new editor of the Routledge book series ‘Critical Studies in Multilingualism’

In April, Caroline Kerfoot at the Centre for Research on Bilingualism became Editor of the Routledge book series ‘Critical Studies in Multilingualism’, together with Vally Lytra of Goldsmiths, University of London. They would like to pay tribute to the inspired leadership, vision, and commitment of the founding editors, Marilyn Martin-Jones and Joan Pujolar, in building and nurturing the series.

Since its inception in 2012, the series has produced an astonishing 36 volumes, offering critical, often interdisciplinary perspectives on the phenomenon of multilingualism. The range of contributions is truly global, from the Americas to Africa, Asia, Europe, and Australia, bringing scholars from diverse contexts into critical reflection and dialogue. The series is particularly noteworthy in its determination to seek out scholars from contexts often invisible to northern scholarship and to ensure that their work is inserted into global circuits of knowledge.

The various theoretical and methodological lenses used by authors in this series provide a substantial contribution to understandings and practices of multilingualism, from early modern European literary culture to multilingualism in the digital age and to southern and decolonial thought. The series as a whole has played a significant role in helping to interrogate epistemologies and agendas of multilingual research. Caroline and Vally are honoured to carry forward this legacy."
