How to design learning activities in an ALC classroom
Workshop
Date: Wednesday 23 October 2024
Time: 13.00 – 16.00
Location: The workshop is canceled
Will you be using the Active Learning Classroom (ALC) classrooms at campus Albano or do you want to know how your students can benefit from learning activities in one of the ALC classrooms? In this workshop you will get a chance to try both how to teach in an ALC classroom and how to be a student in an ALC classroom in a number of hands-on activities.
This workshop is for teachers at Stockholm University with a keen interest in learning how to get students actively involved in the classroom.
About the workshop
An ALC classroom is often furnished with grouped tables for collaboration and equipped with common writing spaces for each group and suitable for active learning and interactive teaching. At SU we have access to a number of Active Learning Classrooms (ALCs), teaching and learning spaces which make it easy to activate, challenge and motivate your students. The ALC is an educational concept that utilizes physical spaces such as group tables, whiteboards and technologies such as interactive screens with software to allow the teacher and students to control what is shown on each screen to promote collaborative learning. Universities all around the world are building these dedicated active learning classrooms to boost student learning. Now you can learn how to use the ALC teaching spaces to encourage students to engage with each other and the materials you have prepared for them.
In this workshop you will experience activities in an ALC room and we will use this teaching technique to learn about and discuss the thinking and research behind active learning. You will have an opportunity to consider how this way of teaching could improve your own courses.
Workshop leaders are Linda Barman, Department of Education and Johan Stymne, Department of Computer and Systems Sciences. The workshop is given in English.
