UL2 Bas 4,5 credits
Course
Date: Thursday 6 February 2025
Time: 09.15 – 15.00
Location: Course start on campus
In-depth course in higher education pedagogy. This course offers an opportunity to learn more about teaching and learning and explore an issue relevant to your own teaching subject or educational context. You are expected to combine UL2 Bas with an additional in-depth course in higher education teaching and learning of at least two weeks (3 credits).
This course targets teachers with experiences of teaching and who completed one basic course in teaching and learning in higher education (Professional development course 1/UL 1 or equivalent). The course gives you the opportunity to deepen your understanding of pedagogical questions that are relevant in your educational context. With the support of the course leaders and the other course participants, you can explore issues such as students’ understanding of your subject or collegial development of your learning environment. UL2 Bas is open for teachers from all disciplinary areas at Stockholm University or Stockholm Trio.
About the course
This UL2 module is equivalent to three weeks fulltime studies (4,5 credits). Combined with another in-depth course (at least 3 credits) of your choice, this course provides the equivalent higher education teaching qualification as University Teaching Courses 2 (five weeks/ 7.5 credits). This course is designed to offer the participants a greater choice and flexibility of what and how to learn during the course. If you complete the course in parallel with another in-depth higher education course, you have the opportunity to use the knowledge from both courses to deepen the area you are particularly interested in. UL2 Base is bilingual and will be adapted as far as possible to the participant’s preference of discussing and reading in English or Swedish.
Course content and structure
The course includes four obligatory course meetings, including two full days on-campus, and two online seminars. In between course meetings, participants are offered support in searching for relevant literature and identifying the scope of your individual project. All course participants are expected to conduct peer-reviews to learn from and help each other develop the individual projects. Joint course meetings are conducted in English but small group discussions and individual literature can be adapted to preferred choice of either Swedish or English.
Upon completion of the course, participants are expected to be able to:
- Identify and explore educational issues relevant for their own teaching and learning practices, using theory and research and own and others’ experiences.
- Utilize and analyse own and others’ experiences of teaching and learning within their subject or context.
- Propose and communicate possible educational development based on the result of exploring own teaching and learning practices and supported by choice of relevant literature.
Combine UL2 Bas with an in-depth course
UL2 Bas is designed to be combined with the participant’s choice of one other advanced course in higher education pedagogy. You apply for an optional combination course separately, i.e. another in-depth course equivalent to 2 weeks (3 credits) given by CeUL or Stockholm trio. The optional combination course cannot be an introductory or a research supervisor course.
In-depth courses are offered by CeUL and the other Universities in Stockholm trio, were a special agreement applies to advanced courses. This means that teachers at the three institutions of higher education in Stockholm trio have the opportunity to participate in each other's continuation courses free of charge, subject to availability.
