About the centre

The Centre's remit is to explore the ethics of war in the 21st century, looking at how traditional just war theory - usually state-based in its approach - might be revised and improved.

The traditional just war theory - usually state-based in its approach - might be revised and improved in light of recent wars, the rise of terrorism, and more general shifts in the relationship between states and their citizens. As well as considering issues surrounding just causes for war, the Centre will seek to enhance our understanding of 'post bellum' issues, including the use of amnesties, war crimes trials, and the duties of victorious parties in the aftermath of a conflict.
