Tovetorp Research Station
Tovetorp's research station is a biological research and education facility located in the heart of Södermanland’s natural beauty, about an hour’s drive south of Stockholm.
The station is part of the Department of Zoology at Stockholm University. We provide facilities for research, courses and conferences all year round and have hosted a large number of ground-breaking research projects over the 50-year history of the station.
Research at Tovetorp has been focused primarily on studies of animal behaviour and ecology, but have also included botanical studies. Researchers utilize both the variety of habitats in Tovetorp’s unique surroundings as well as indoor animal housing. Our overall goal is to provide high-quality resources and infrastructure for innovative research. We welcome proposals from researchers from Stockholm University and world-wide.

In addition to research activities, Tovetorp regularly hosts conferences, workshops, and events. The high level of service, beautiful natural surroundings, and low prices allow for cost-effective research, education, and meeting activities. We welcome researchers, courses, and meetings associated with Stockholm University as well as other groups. In addition to enjoying the beautiful surroundings, which include nature walks and the possibility to interact with our tame fallow deer, there are a variety of local activities and attractions within hiking distance of Tovetorp. These include Torpesta Mill, Öster-Malma wildlife park, swimming in Likstammen lake, and, in-season, mushroom- and fruit- picking opportunities.

Finally, since the inauguration of the Course Building in 1994, Tovetorp has been a vibrant education environment. Every year, the station is visited by hundreds of students from the Department of Biology Education (BIG) at Stockholm University, and we welcome courses from other universities, high schools, and other organisations.
