Previous research

Beginnings of novels in modern Arabic literature. The research is based on a corpus of nine novels from the 20th century. I did a semiotic analysis which included both discursive and narrative analysis to study how the novels begin. The result showed that the principal content of the novel was presented at its beginning. It also showed that there were common characteristics to the beginnings of the studied novels.
I have also written a diachronic sociolinguistic study of the Baghdadi dialect 1950-2000.

Current research

Narratology: portrayals of characters in Arabic literature.
Literary History: I am taking part in the project History of modern Arabic literature (1945-2000) coordinated by the University of Sorbonne-Nouvelle.
