Time: 13.00 – 15.00
Location: Södra huset F, rum F3154
Son Seoeun is a writer of books for children and young adults. Currently she is visiting Stockholm University for three months, from 5 September 5 to 2 December, 2024.
Son Seoeun was born and educated in Seoul, Korea. First she studied Law receiving a BA degree but afterwards, making a few short films, she realized her dream to become an artist and therefore studied photography in graduate school. One of her short films, titled Spaghetti, was even awarded a prize at the International Short Film Festival in Pusan. When she got pregnant, she went to Greece with a scholarship, because she got severely aware of the fact that Korea is a very tough and competitive country for women to continue to work successfully after child birth. Her novel Theodorou 24, awarded with the Munhak Dongne’s prize for Young adult literature in the ROK, is based on her family's experiences while living as strangers in the foreign country, Greece. With a focus on this work in her guest lecture at Stockholm University, Son Seoeun will give some insights into her writings and literary world.
“Even living in my own country, I sometimes feel like a stranger, an alien. These words are my major interests in my work. That's why I am now here in Stockholm. I am living once again as a guest, a traveler and a stranger in this beautiful city. I invite you to come to my lecture and share my story. You can meet fresh K-culture and have so much fun!!” (Son Seoeun)
