Research at the Department of Child and Youth Studies (BUV) focuses on young children, children, young people, and young adults in education and their leisure time. Children and young people's perspectives and ways of negotiating and acting are of particular interest. Thus, preschool, school and schoolage educare are examples of institutions where children's experiences and perspectives are examined.

Other important contexts where children and young people's everyday lives and construction of identity are studied are, for example, the media, where they live, families and their organisations.

The adults that children and young people meet are also relevant to the research. Theories and methods are taken from the humanities and social sciences and based on interdisciplinary approaches.

There are two postgraduate subjects at BUV: Child and Youth Studies and Early Childhood Education.
