Evacuation and fire protection measures of the Nod Building

Here you will find important information on what to keep in mind in the event of an evacuation of the Nod Building. Please take all alarms seriously and evacuate immediately even if you do not perceive any danger in the vicinity.

Prepare yourself:

  • Locate the fire extinguishers and find out how they work by reading the instructions.
  • Locate the fire blankets. They are used when someone’s clothes have caught fire. You will find a fire blanket close to every fire extinguisher.
  • Find the escape routes. Look for the green signs with a “running man”. Several safe routes are available.
  • Study the evacuation plan, available on the walls of floor 2, and find out where the outside collection point is located.
  • Find out who your evacuation leader is. In the public study rooms, one of the staffs will serve as one. If you have a lesson or lecture, your teacher will serve as the evacuation leader and if you write an exam, the responsible invigilator will serve as one. All evacuation leaders are wearing a yellow vest. In the student union’s premises, someone from DISK will serve as an evacuation leader, with or without a vest.
  • Always follow the evacuation leader’s instructions.
  • Warn others and urge them to evacuate. Help those in need, without exposing yourself to danger. Help those in wheelchairs to a stairwell that is not filled with smoke.  Make sure that someone stays to keep company while someone else notifies the evacuation leaders that people are still in the building and in which staircase and on which floor they can be found.
  • Stay at the outside collection point until the police, rescue service or an evacuation leader confirms that it is safe to re-enter the building.

General information about evacuation

Evacuate immediately when you hear the fire alarm, in case of risk for life and health or when the police, rescue service or evacuation leader gives orders for evacuation. After a fire has started, you usually only have three to four minutes to evacuate. If you see fumes in your nearest escape stairwell, choose another escape route.
