The highest decision-making body at the department is the Department Board (IS). The department board is run by the Head of Department, who is chairman, or by the Deputy Head of Department, vice-chairman. The members of the board are representatives from the staff categories researchers / teachers, technical / administrative staff, the doctoral students and the students are represented by the student organization Kräm.

The Head of Department Felipe Estrad is responsible for the work environment at the department. The responsibility for the continuous work with the work environment, gender equality and equality issues has been delegated to the Deputy Head of Department, Anders Nilsson. The work includes, among other things, working out a plan for the work environment and equal conditions. The Deputy Head of Department works with these issues in close collaboration with the safety / work environment representatives, the administrative manager and the department's working group for issues concerning the work environment and equal conditions.

The department's safety representative is Kalle Tryggvesson. Assistant safety representative and doctoral student representative is Albin Stenström. The safety representative is the employees' representative in work environment issues vis-à-vis the employer. The representative's task is to cherish a good working environment.

Local council for working environment and equal conditions

The working group for issues concerning the work environment and equal conditions, led by the Deputy Head of Department, shall monitor and develop the work environment, gender equality and equality work at the department and, if necessary, point out shortcomings and propose solutions. The ongoing work includes a continuous review of the department's plan for work environment and equal conditions. The group prepares the basis for this plan. The group meets a few times per semester.
