New research project sheds new light on the school as a crime prevention institution

A new research project at the Department of Criminology will contribute with in-depth knowledge of crime prevention initiatives aimed at the school, a place that is often presented as society's most important arena for crime prevention. Researcher Julia Sandahl will be leading the project.

- The new project "To bear the responsibility – A local school perspective on schools as crime preventive institutions" has the overall aim of studying how crime prevention initiatives aimed at schools are received, interpreted, and practiced at the local school level, says researcher Julia Sandahl.

The project intends to combine interviews with local school actors with observations of crime prevention practices in two upper secondary schools in Stockholm. Based on this material, the plan is to write two scientific articles that in different ways shed light on the picture of crime prevention aimed at the school from the perspective of the local school.

The project is financed by FORTE and runs full-time during the years 2023 and 2024.
