Practicalities for exchange students

There are different application periods courses and programmes at bachelor's and master's level for international students applying through universityadmissions.se. This is depending on if you are going to travel to Sweden, get a recidence permit for studies, find a place to stay etc, or if you are already living in Sweden.

If you get accepted to a course that you have applied for through universityadmissions.se, you will recieve your acceptance letter via the e-mail address that you use on universityadmissions.se.

You must accept your place in a course or programme, in order to keep your study place. You'll find information on how to accept your study place in the e-mail sent to you via universityadmissions.se. If you have made a late application, acceptance letters will be sent out after the second admission round.

Scholarships for students at the Department of Culture and Aesthetics.

Individuals who are citizens of countries outside of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are required to pay application and tuition fees. There are some exceptions to this general rule.

Stockholm University and the Swedish Institute offer scholarships for master's students coming from countries outside of EU/EEA/Switzerland and who are required to pay tuition fees for studies. In addition, various organisations and foundations around the world offer scholarships for studies abroad.

Scholarships for studies at Stockholm University

All non-EU/EEA students who plan on studying for more than three months must have a residence permit for studies in Sweden.

The authority responsible for issuing residence permits is the Swedish Migration Agency, (”Migrationsverket”). Students from outside the EU/EEA can apply for a residence permit for studies online (recommended), or through the Swedish Embassy/Consulate in their country of residence.

Special instructions apply for Swiss citizens, who may move to Sweden to study and apply for a residence permit after entrance in Sweden.

If you applied through universityadmissions.se you have to register for your course online via the web registration. You must make your web registration within the period set for your course – or you will lose your place on the course. If you cannot make your web registration, please contact the department, expedition.ike@su.se, before the last day for web registrations, to not lose your study place.

We use the web-based learning and collaboration platform Athena for communication between teachers and students. You sign in with your university account. On Athena you will find the lecture and seminar plans at least one week before the course starts.

International students may apply for Swedish language training on condition that you are admitted to studies at Stockholm University through an exchange programme or an equivalent agreement (scholarship, doctoral candidate, visiting reseacher).
