Center of excellence on global governance

A research group at Stockholm University has received funding to establish an internationally leading center on research about the contestation of international cooperation.

Lisa Dellmuth’s research focuses on questions of legitimacy, distribution, and climate cooperation in national, regional and global governance.

In the fall of 2022, the Swedish Research Council put out a call for applications for centers of excellence. After an international board has evaluated 124 applications, the Swedish Research Council has now decided to fund 15 research environments. One of these environments which has received funding is the Stockholm Center on Global Governance (SCGG) at Stockholm University. Co-directors are Lisa Dellmuth, professor in international relations, and Jonas Tallberg, professor in political science, who is also project leader for the center.

A central theme of the research at the center will be the question of why, how and with what consequences global cooperation is challenged by actors such as authoritarian states and populist leaders. The center will be active in research, education and collaboration with the surrounding community, including an extensive program of seminars, workshops and visiting researchers. Through the establishment of SCGG, a unique interdisciplinary environment is created at the forefront of international research and Northern Europe's first center for the study of global cooperation.

Interdisciplinary center

The Stockholm Center on Global Governance (SCGG) is an interdisciplinary center and co-applicants are professors Mark Klamberg (law), Torun Lindholm Öjmyr (psychology), and Aryo Makko (history) who also leads the Hans Blix Center. Every research environment receives 4–6 million SEK per year during a period of five years, and the plan is to provide opportunities for continued funding after this after a successful evaluation.
