Become a researcher

Do you find economic history or international relations so interesting that you have thought about doing research in one of the subjects? The doctoral program is an exciting way into the researcher's workshop, where you yourself get to formulate and carry out a major research task.

In postgraduate education, you learn about the scientific craft - about how ideas, hypotheses and research questions are formulated, about different methods and theories that can be used to interpret the sources and provide answers to your questions, about how research work is practically carried out in archives and libraries. You gain in-depth knowledge of research methodology and theoretical formations that can be used to provide answers to your questions.

The Higher Seminar forms the heart of postgraduate education. Doctoral students must participate regularly and actively. At the Higher Seminar, PhD students present chapter or article drafts and there the texts are reviewed in collegial collaboration.
