Organisation

The Department of English is led by the head of department supported by the department board and a senior management team. The board functions as a link between the department and the Faculty of Humanities.

The department board

The department board (Institutionsstyrelsen) is the department's highest decision-making authority. Decisions are made by way of delegation from the Faculty of Humanities and on items prepared by the department's drafting bodies.

The department board is headed by the head of department (chair) or deputy head of department (vice chair). The members represent the staff categories teachers / researchers and technical / administrative staff. The board also consists of student representatives from undergraduate and postgraduate education.

The department board makes decisions about the department's long-term strategy and determines the department's budget. The board's tasks also include establishing guidelines for how the department is to be organized, how premises and other resources are to be used and how teaching and tests are to be arranged, etc.

The composition of the department board is determined by the President of Stockholm University following a proposal from the department.
