Courses for exchange students

The application process for exchange students is different than for other international students. Read these instructions carefully:

How to apply as an exchange student

How to select courses as an exchange student

Remember to:

  • ensure the courses you are interested in would be approved by your home university for a credit transfer. Our courses are not open for auditing;
  • list some alternative courses in your course selection form, in case of schedule clashes or in case some courses are full;
  • include your transcripts if you are interested in a course that requires previous studies, such as English 2, English 3 or advanced level courses.

All students from countries outside the EU/EEA need to have a residence permit for studies if they are planning on staying in Sweden for more than three months. You need to apply for, and receive, your permit before you travel to Sweden.

Applications for residence permits are processed by the Swedish Migration Agency, not the University. The residence permit application is your responsibility.

If you are coming to Stockholm University as an exchange student from a partner university, you should not apply for your residence permit until after you have received your Letter of Acceptance (LoA). Once you have received this, you are advised to apply as soon as possible, as the whole process can take up to 3-4 months. Please check the Migration Agency website carefully to make sure that you have prepared the necessary documents.

Apply online at the Swedish Migration Agency website
