Josep Soler and Kathrin Kaufhold have recently published an edited volume entitled “Language and the Knowledge Economy: Multilingual Scholarly Publishing in Europe”.
This book will be of interest to scholars and students in English for research and publication purposes, sociolinguistics, language and education, and applied linguists.
The authors in the volume focus on three areas: in the first part, the individual factors underpinning knowledge production and their role shaping academic careers are examined; the second part critically reflects on challenges and opportunities for multilingual scholars in the academic landscape; the final part considers ways in which academic knowledge is institutionalised in universities and publishig companies. An important contribution of the volume is that it combines multiple layers of analysis to investigate issues of scholarly publishing in today’s academia, including structuring processes and individual agencies that condition the creation, dissemination, and consumption of knowledge in contemporary multilingual societies.
