Natasja Börjeson to participate in the Baltic Sea Festival Science Lab 2024

The Baltic Sea Festival Science Lab, returning for its second year, has announced Natasja Börjeson, a postdoctoral scientist from the Department of Environmental Science, Stockholm University, as one of its key participants for the 2024 edition.

Börjeson, along with a select group of international scientists and composers, is poised to create a piece that marries her research with original music. "This is certainly thrilling, and I aspire to add a small yet significant insight into understanding how we can achieve a Baltic Sea free from the impacts of hazardous substances resulting from human activities, " Börjeson commented on her involvement. Her research is centered on regulatory toxicology, examining the ways in which societal actors address and manage the risks associated with chemicals.

Emma Nyberg, Project Leader for the Baltic Sea Festival , expressed her enthusiasm for the ongoing project: "Building on the success of last year's festival, we aim to deepen the connection between science and music. We are set to offer our audience a unique and enlightening experience, blending critical environmental discussions with the emotive power of music."

The Baltic Sea Science Lab, now in its second year, selects its participants through a stringent process. It focuses on engaging doctoral candidates or postdocs specializing in Baltic Sea region-related studies and composers nearing the end of their educational journey or those holding master's degrees. Director Elisabet Ljungar plays a pivotal role, facilitating the fusion of scientific themes with musical expression.
